Eddie Sugarman holds a BFA in musical theatre
performance from the University of Michigan, and is a member of the Dramatists
Guild and the BMI-Lehman Engle Musical Theatre Writing Workshop.
His musical MEET JOHN DOE (music and co-libretto by Andrew
Gerle), based on the Capra film, played six sold-out showcase performances at
the first annual New York Musical Theatre Festival, and was a finalist for the
2004 O'Neill Musical Theatre Conference. KING OF THE PLAYGROUND
(music by Bruce Kiesling) premiered at the University of Michigan, and received
a staged reading at Musical Theatre Works in NYC. He has also written the book
and lyrics to the short musicals TO MAKE A KING (music by Jihwan
Kim) and JOE & MARY (music by Sunmee Cho).
Mr. Sugarman has written a number of cabaret and specialty songs with various composers which have been sung in cabarets across Manhattan. "Countdown" from KING OF THE PLAYGROUND was included in the revue ALL ABOUT SCHOOL (produced and published by Tada!) As a performer, Eddie appeared on Broadway in the musical RAGTIME for its entire run. He lives in the Bronx with his wife and son.
