Mia's most recent productions include SINCE AFRICA at Chicago Dramatists, InterAct Theatre in Philadelphia and Mo'olelo Performing Arts Company in San Diego; and ECHOES OF ANOTHER MAN at Stage Left Theatre in Chicago and Actor's Express in Atlanta. Mia's work has also been seen at the Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival and at Steppenwolf Theatre Company which premiered TAKING CARE in 2003 and commissioned and produced a workshop production of Spare Change in 2006.
Awards for Mia's plays include: for CHAGRIN FALLS - a Joseph Jefferson Citation and an After Dark Award for New Work, the ATCA Osborn Award, and first prize in the Julie Harris Playwriting Competition; for SINCE AFRICA - finalist for the 2005 Blackburn Prize and a nominee for a Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Work.
CHAGRIN FALLS, which premiered at Stage Left Theatre in Chicago has been published by Smith & Kraus in the anthology “New Playwrights: Best Plays of 2001.” TAKING CARE was published in the Chicago Dramatists anthology “New Plays from Chicago.”
Mia is a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists, and a member of Stage Left Theatre and The Dramatists Guild. She has taught writing at Chicago Dramatists and at Northwestern University, both in the Theatre Department and in the Creative Writing for the Media Program. She lives just outside Chicago with her husband, son, and small menagerie.
