Rebecca Lynn Brown recently directed the Richard Rogers Award Workshop Production of the new musical THE YELLOW WOOD at the York Theatre; the World Premiere of Will Power’s HONEY BO AND THE GOLD MINE at La Jolla Playhouse; the World Premiere of Lynne Alvarez’s ESPERANZA RISING (2006 Best Production of a New Play, Minneapolis Star Tribune) at The Children’s Theatre Company of Minneapolis and Kia Corthron’s SPLASH HATCH ON THE E GOING DOWN, also for the Children’s Theatre Company. She has numerous new play development credits including THE CLEAN HOUSE by Sarah Ruhl for McCarter Theatre, AMAZONS AND THEIR MEN by Jordan Harrison (Playwrights’ Center), THE LAKE’S END by anton dudley (New York Theatre Workshop), TIGHT EMBRACE by Jorge Ignacio Cortiñas (Repertorio Espagnol), THE MAGICIAN’S WIFE by Rosanna Staffa (Playwrights’ Center) and SUMMER-A-GO-GO by Ann Marie Healy (Clubbed Thumb). She has also directed works by Sarah Ruhl, Charles L. Mee, Eve Ensler, Caryl Churchill, Sarah Daniels, Caridad Svich, Shakespeare and has created original, interview-based works for Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis and The Children’s Theatre Company. She was the Associate Director for Rinde Eckert’s AND GOD CREATED GREAT WHALES and for GERTRUDE AND ALICE: A LIKENESS TO LOVING (Anne Bogart, Director).
Rebecca was the recipient of a 2003 TCG New Generations Grant. She was Artistic Associate at The Children’s Theatre Company from 2003-2005 where, in addition to directing, teaching and coaching movement, she produced original projects with such artists as Will Power and Whit MacLaughlin. Rebecca has taught acting, movement and cultural studies at major Canadian and American Universities. She is a certified OM Yoga instructor and a Usual Suspect at New York Theatre Workshop.
